polices for *nix


hi there,

is there anything like windows GPO's for linux? if i setup a openLDAP server or NIS server can i apply secuirty setting, edit access to programs, set desktop backgrounds, change start menus from the server side to the client side?

I believe ZenWorks can do that on Linux.. not sure if there is an OSS equivalent..
