Please help with boot issue

Hello, I am working on a controller for a Toshiba device that is running Red Hat (not certain on ver.).

When attempting to boot from the HDD I see the following:

Kernel Panic: No init found try passing init= option to kernel

When I attempt to boot from a bootable CD it gives me the following:

Kernel Panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 16:00

Any help or suggestions would be mucho appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Todd

How have you ended up in this situation? could you provide more details?? having a "no init found" message means that onces it's started booting, it goes to load "/sbin/init" within the newly mounted root directory (the one passed by the root= value on the boot line. if init has died, then you can try passing an alternative init process, .e.g /bin/bash to get into the system at some level.

Thanks for your response. I am suspecting it to be a hardware related issue because the hard drive and the CDROM work on a duplicate controller.

There is only a main board with the chipset, CPU, memory a PCI slot and 2 propietary slots and a riser card with IDE, USB, Video and PS2 connectors.

I replaced the main board today and it didn't help. I guess I'll replace the riser card and or cables.

I have tried 4 different hard drives in it with the same result.
