can someone please tell were i can find the red hat softwear or any kind of linux softwear thats for beginners and is easy and free to download i have windows me please help me

Get on the net and look at all the distro's websites. Linux on the web is like cockroaches in my kitchen, there everywhere. Redhat.com, suse.com,mandrake-linux.com, sombody will list a place were you can go for a download. Just be prepared for lengthy downloads. If your prepared to spend a few bucks packaged distros are great and usually less than $40. You can also hit the bookstores and get a book about the setup and configuration of linux and alot of them have the disk to some distro in them.

i highly recommend that you buy one of the pre-packaged distros with manual, cd's, ect.. if you've never used linux before, then installing from the downloaded packages can be very difficult. the packages aren't expensive. suse is around $30 last i checked, and their installation programs are very user-friendly. redhat is a bit more expensive, but also very easy to install. another good distro for beginners is mandrake. avoid debian unless you know what you're doing.

I have to admit that the manuals and four disks I got with my SuSE 6.0 waaaay back took me from a "Yes I've installed linux once or twice but never really used it that much" to "Linux on the desktop, and on the server farm." Thirty bucks looks like a good deal for SuSE7.2, but I really wish they'd get some on the shelves or in bookstores. Not to whine or anything but I do get a little tired of the Linux = RedHat misconception that most consumers seem to have. OK, so maybe I'm whining.:)

Ben, you can get Linux any way you want to but, as has been said, downloading it with a 56K dial up connection is going to take several lifetimes. Make it easy on yourself:

* Buy a Linux book that comes with a distribution CDROM or two.

* Shell out the money for an official distribution either off the 'net or off the local store shelf (usually comes with relatively good documentation and limited tech support).

* Visit www.cheapbytes.com or www.linuxmall.com and buy a CDROM for around $2.00 (comes with nadda).

* Ask around to see if one of your friends has a copy to spare.

Getting Linux can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. Take your pick.
