Unhappy Please help


I am having trouble with my graphics. I would like to configure my pc to boot directly to the text-based shell instead of gui. I need to know what path name I use. I am using red hat 7.2 linux

What distro are you using? What problems are you having with your graphics? Sorry I think I left my mind reading cap at work.

You can insert your distro information etc in your profile, that way people have a better idea off the bat of how to help.

Re: console bootup

Edit the /etc/inittab file:

# Default runlevel.
id:3:initdefault:

runlevel 5 is boot to Xwindows
runlevel 3 is multi-user console

Thankyou all for the responses. I really do appreciate it. I am really sorry, I am using linux 7.2 .
I am in college, and that is what we are being taught.

You need to be more precise about the Linux distribution you are using. Linux 7.2 does not mean much since there are so many Linux distributions that have had a 7.2 release.

Actually I think he's referring to his kernel version. The kernel is version 7.2. He's from the future...

and he drives a Delorean...

He's edited the original post to say Redhat 7.2. I'm not sure how Redhat have their init levels set up but I'd assume dxqcanada has the right answer.

If its Redhat 7.2 then dxqcanada definitely has the right answer.
