please help!
Hi,
I uninstalled XScreenSaver, and when I rebooted my linuxbox, it didn't start X. It showed me the black screen (which is the one that comes up when i press CTRL + ALT + F2).
And then when I tried to login, it gave me the following error:
Quote:
/bin/login: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libdl.so.2: undefined symbol: _dl_catch_erro2
INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.
|
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Hfawzy.

It looks like you uninstalled a needed libraru with xscreensaver. You can either reinstall xscreensaver amd run ldconfig or go hunt for the missing library and install only that.

Don't know if this will help you much, but here is a search on that library it's missing @ rpmfind http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2htm...rake+8.1&arch=
it doesn't look very promising, but it's something you could look at...

But I can't install anything because I can't login. Is there any terminal I can use without logging in?
Please help...

Press ctrl + alt + f3 which will bring you to a console, where you can either run lynx or install the xscreensaver package by finding it on your c.d...
Hope this helps...
p.s. log in as root if you can...

I tried Ctrl + Alt + F3. It gives me the same error:
Quote:
linuxbox login:root
/bin/login: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libdl.so.2: undefined symbol: _dl_catch_erro2
INIT: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes.
|
After 5 minutes it does the same thing...
Thanks for your help.

In other words put your distros first c.d in, in this case put Disk 1 of Mandrake 8.1 in, and select to boot into rescue mode/console whatever it is called
