pine question

In Pine, where do I go to configure settings to the IMAP server? I didn't see any area in the setup menu for IMAP.

acid_kewpie 03-20-2002 12:27 PM

pine only uses MH mailboxes, you need fetchmail or something to download mail for imap servers

glock19 03-20-2002 12:32 PM

I read on the official website that it uses IMAP

http://www.washington.edu/pine/overview/index.html

Not that I don't believe you, just trying to get an understanding.

What are some good graphical mail clients that support SMTP and IMAP? Besides KMail, since I don't want to download KDE until 3.0 comes out.

Graphical? Evolution just plain kicks arse in my book. It's a GNOME/GTK+ based email client. Go to www.freshmeat.net and look up mail clients there too, you may find something you like there.

for serious reasons i'd sugegst sylpheed instead. gnome based, and it uses the MH mailboxes, meanign that once you've got the mail you then can use it in pine if you want to. something most crappy kde / gnome gui mail progs can't do

I'm really looking for a stand-alone graphical mail client that supports IMAP.

I don't want to install an entire Desktop Environment just to get a mail client...

acid_kewpie 03-20-2002 01:27 PM

they only use libraries, not the desktop themselves. just because something is gnome based or whatever, doesn't mean you need to actaully have gnome installed, just the gtk and gnomeui libraries

glock19 03-20-2002 02:19 PM

does sylpheed support getting mail from an IMAP server?

does evolution?

taz.devil 03-20-2002 02:25 PM

Yep...IMAP, POP etc....Evolution is a big guy so you may want to try out Sylpheed first if you are downloading. It SHOULD be on one of yuor install CD's though. So look there first...I know redhat has it in their distro.

Any other suggestions besides slypheed? Thanks for the help.
