pidgin installation problem


I am using Ubuntu 9.04.
After doing sudo apt-get update

When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows:

XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pidgin: Depends: libpurple0 (>= 1:2.6.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: perl (>= 5.10.0-19ubuntu1.1) but 5.10.0-19ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

pidgin2.6.4tar.bz2

I've downloaded pidgin2.6.4tar.bz2 and also extracted it.
Now I dont know how to insatll it. Please explain it.

Hey I tried the link but it shows:

So I downloaded the tar.bz2 file but don't know how to install it.Do you have any idea?

You can download the .deb package from bottom of the following link :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/pidgin

and then try the steps from http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-pi...in-ubuntu.html

Follow the following steps and list the errors here if you get any !

tar -xf pidgin2.6.4tar.bz2
cd pidgin2.6.4
./configure
make
su
make install
