Unhappy php not recognizing mysql installation

ok, here we go: i upgraded mysql from 3.23.58 to 4.0.16, everything went smoothly and all that. php works fine, after testing some echo's and such...now, i did a phpinfo(); to check the mysql section to see that php recognized the new version, and ouch...it doesn't. still reading 3.23.58. so, i grab the source rpm and rebuild it from the ground up (after cleaning out the appropriate dirs). goes without a hitch, until i restart apache and check phpinfo() again, and man, still reading 3.23.58. i've checked all over the place, and the module for php-mysql integration was included in the source rpm that i already compiled! so what's the deal?

to add to the confusion, phpmyadmin works FINE and even displays the correct version of mysql. what a paradox!

also, i've eliminated the fact that i could be viewing a cached file...many times over (even viewing from a M$ box on the LAN thats never even touched my server)

any help would be much appreciated, check out the sig for the stats of this box

How are you restarting mysql? Are you just doing a simple restart or shutting it down completely and then starting it up? If you haven't tried already, try shutting it down completely, killing all of its processes and then restarting it.

I believe its just like apache, if you upgrade and do a restart, if you view directory pages where you can see the version at bottom of the page, it will read your old version until you stop and then start it.

Regards.
