PHP and Linux commands

I wanted to create a simple website to view my pictures online as well as modify them. I was wondering if it is possible to run non standard linux command. For example I found a program (ImageMagick) that could let me create thumbnails "on the fly." For example when they open up the directory, it would read a PHP file that would create a table with thumbnails. Is it possible to do this is with just PHP and ImageMagick? Thanks for the help.

Yes. In your apache configuration, set DirectoryIndex to something like
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

This way, if the user opens foo.com/some/dir/ if there is an index.php file in dir/, it automatically goes (make sure there is no index.html)

Then, just write your thumbnail script and name it as index.php

Awsome. Yes, I did changed the apache before, but thanks for the reminder. And I just found a command to pass commands too. Now to learn some PHP.
