Personal Connections!

I consider the whole Linux community to be a great resource, but I do feel that a certain amount of personal connection is lacking. I don't know anybody else in person who has a substantial use of Linux, and I don't really know anyone online in a one-on-one manner. So, I was wondering how others felt about the personal connections in the Linux community? I have begun to think that if Linux newbies had a single "mentor" they could turn to, they might become less discouraged and more people may give the OS the chance it deserves. Just a few thoughts.

And I reckon that if 20 windows-trained linux-newbies a
day went to 1 mentor the poor sod would shoot his head
of within a week ...

Cheers,

Tink, I don't disagree. But you know, I may be a computer geek with a girlfriend... but somehow, I'm lacking... interaction with other computer geeks. Even in my Computer Science classes at college!

Thats very true...I only actually new one linux user in person. I worked with him for a while...He was a Mandrake user...He wasn't extremely knowledgeable about linux...but he did get me into it. I didn't know that it was free back then. Now I'm constantly having to defend linux in our Windows vs. Linux discussions.

Unfortunately, my local LUG (ALE) meets at the same time as another meeting I have (an organization I am an officer of, so I can't really duck out much)... maybe I'll be able to make ALE meetings after my term ends in August. It really would be good to meet people.

I've watched geeks interact, and trust me, it's ugly ;}

Geeks and "social life" just don't match :)

LOL.

It may be ugly to you, but to us, it's quite fun.
