Permissions Question

How can I set up file permissions in Linux to allow read, write, and execute a file without allowing the user to delete the file (or if it was a directory) itself?

I think I figured it out. Either use ACL's or do this:

"Put the sticky bit on that directory: chmod 1777 public. That way, the
directory remains public (read/write), but people can only delete files they
own."
