permissions for a network connection?

I set up my orinoco/prism2 based wireless network card while logged in as root. The problem is while logged in as a normal user the connection doesn't appear on the list. Is there a chmod command that I am missing?

I'm not sure exactly what the question is (what list are you talking about?), but I had a similar problem (or at least it sounds like it).

What is it exactly that isn't working? Internet sharing? Drive sharing?

Can you ping the other machine(s) on the net?

If your problem is with drive sharing then it could be that you need to set the rights for the share in your fstab.

You'll need to add 'gid=smbusrs, fmask = 0775, dmask=0775' to the options part of your fstab entry for the share.

Then all you need to do to grant access to the share, to a particular user, is add them to the group 'smbusrs'.

When I log in as root, I can see the connection in the Red Hat network Configurator as a device, right below the ethernet connection. When I log in as any other user, I cannot see, and therefore cannot modify settings for, the wireless connection..
