Performance question

I've read in several web sites that Linux is more secure, more stable, and faster then micro$oft windblows. I have noticed that Linux is more stable, and more secure, but what about the faster thing? I havn't notice any benchmark software for Linux. So how do poeple know Linux is faster then windblows?

Quake3 Arena for example should already give you 10% - 15% more vid performance.

That's a good sign

Omg, get yourself Unreal Tournament install it in a windoze box and then install it on a linux box. I did this and my lower class linux box destroyed my windoze gaming machine.

the windoze gaming machine has 1.4g Athlon and GeForce 3 the linux box has 900mhz athlon and GeForce2 Ultra.

With the windoze box I ran @ 1024x768 32bit all graphics maxed and was lucky to get a constant 30fps.
On the linux box I ran @ 1280x1024 32bit all graphics maxed and was getting between 60-80 fps.

Of course I had compiled the newest (at that time) nvidia linux driver. If a game is ported to linux it's fast and stable, if it's not, then who knows.

just to note.. the unreal tournament disk installs both windows and linux, however for linux you'll need to get the install proggie from loki software's website.

Cheers,
Muddy

Ported games run faster on Linuc than on windows, i have noticed it too, if the system is configured properly of course. Then i beleive i read Linux has far superior memory management than windows, which means less swapping to disk = more speed. Then if you run a lightweight WM, linux just rules even on slower systems.
Just yesterday i went to friend's house to reinstall windows for him, i have to say it takes almost a minute to boot into windows, and another minute to start up windows explorer, while in slackware i'm in X running ROX or xftree in about 50 seconds, on a slower machine than that windows is on...
If you use Linux, then go back to windows, you'll see how much faster it is, no need for benchmarks...
