I want to know minimum requirement for reading pdf and listening mp3 on old notebook and what UNIX OS i need to work on this "pdf-mp3" notebook with best productivity ?
486 machine should be enough to listen MP3 (but not those of very good quality). You can read PDFs on every machine running Linux if you're only able to make X run. Every distro will be OK. The most important thing in your case is to get one that supports all you hardware.
