I use xpdf, which, according to the man page, can be found at http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/, although you can probably grab it with your package updater. You can also use ghostscript but the interface is not as nice.

Jason

PS: I just checked; that URL is still valid and you can download it there.

Oh... xpdf doesn't let you edit the file though... I've never done that but this might contain some useful info (Google search "linux pdf editor" for more links).

Thanks for your fast replies.

Looked at some of those applications but couldn't find the right one. Im planning on reading a reference material about 250 pages long so i need a pdf viewer and editor in one, like adobe pro but in linux. Editor in the sense of saving bookmarks.

Thanks.

Hmm I can't get Scribus to open a pdf document either. Does it need some kind of plugin?

Wait! I found it!

KWord. KWord imports and lets you view and edit PDFs.

I realize this is an extra step, but you could edit in KWord, export it as an OpenOffice document, then use OpenOffice to export it as a PDF. It's annoying, but at least the software's free (cost, not just license).

You may find these links helpful as well:

http://www.koffice.org/filters/1_3_1/kword/pdf.php
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/350861
http://applications.linux.com/articl...&tid=49&tid=47

Edit:
I guess you can save as PDF in KWord:

http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:j...t=4&lr=lang_en
http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:I...t=3&lr=lang_en

So, KWord is your program. Import PDF, and Print to PDF. Here's a screenshot of saving to PDF:
