password missing

Hallo all,

On my machine I have dual boot, i.e. win2k and ubuntu. I have not logged on win2k for months. Just now I tried to access win2k, but were rejected with message saying that the password or user name not correct. I believe the password be outright correct, maybe it is hacked.

As I could access the disk dedicated for win2k from ubuntu, I hope I could find the file which contains the password. Could anyone tell me, which file and where I could find it?

Thanks a lot in advance,

win2s

The password is stored in the registry.. but not in a format you can easily edit from Linux..

an easier solution would be to use something like: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Did this computer come with Windows 2000 pre-installed. If so you might try booting up in safe mode, and logging in under the "Administrator" account. This account is accessible in the safe mode and may have a null default password if you haven't changed it.
