Partitions question

Ok, so this is simple question: how many partitions can a hard drive have? Right now I have 3 (the most I have seen in a hard drive) in my main HD [WinXP(1), FC3(2,3)] and was thinking on experimenting with another distro. Can I resize my partitions and add the extra 2 partitions I would need?
Thanx for any replies.

You can have up to 4 partitions. If you want more, then one of the partitions needs to be an extended partition, which can contain other partitions.

also, you don't need to add 2 more (I am assuming you meant another root and swap partiitions) partitions. You would only need to add one more (the root of the new distro) and then use the same partition you have now as swap for the new partition as well (in essence sharing the swap partition between multiple distros). Hope this makes sense. In what ever you do, you still need to resize your current partitions to accomidate the new one/s. Just like jschiwal said, you can only have 4 primary partitions, if you want more then one of them needs to be an extended partition in order to add more partitions.
