partitioning question

I need advice as to how best to partition my hard drive.

I'm planning to install two distros on my 80gb drive. Probably Debian or Slack, I have 50gb for my personal files (VFAT), that I plan to share on both OS + windows on another drive. Is it possible that both my Debian and Slack share a same swap file?

Also can someone give me a possible layout for my drive? Like how big for root etc etc... I think I'm going to have problems with the maximum allowable partitions for my drive.

Here's my plan so far...

Debian.

root 1st partition
/boot 1st logical partition?
swap 2nd logical partition?

Slack
root 2nd primary partition
/boot 3rd logical partition
swap 4th logical partition

I don't know if this will work

Something like that should work. Run cfdisk and you can do anything you want.

Why 2 Linux distros? Even though I pray to the sands of time that I can install every distro and give it a try I have to ask because I dont know if the motives are the same as mine?

I like to also have a partition for /var. I usually give it a gig - plenty for logs and web hosting if you run Apache.
