Partition Table Unreadable

Hi, i was trying to install Fedora 8 but during installation before selecting the partitions, i get this message:
The partition table could not be read and needs to be reinitialized. This will cause loss of ALL DATA.
Proceed: Yes/No

I have windows XP installed and too many files that i dont want to loose, so is there anyway to get around this problem?

You could try partitioning before the installation, using a livecd or some partition tool for windows. Anyway, strange problem... have you checked for DVD integrity?

Stuff like that is usually fixable with gpart from a live-cd.
(should be pretty self explanatory. I think it even has a comprehensive man page.)

I would strongly recommend you backup any somewhat important data no matter what you do - no hard drive lasts forever.
