Partition Superblock Problem?

My D: drive, an NTFS partition, is not accessable from Windows NT, however, Linux can access the partition. The message displayed in Windows is: "drive D: is not accessable or corrupted." This occured after installing Linux on a second hard disk. The installation program installed a boot sector either on the second drive or on the first drive.

I was hoping that this is a simple superblock problem. I believe that partition information is stored on a block at the beginning of the partition and repeated every 8K. If Linuz can read the repetitous blocks when the initial block is corrupt then Linux could access the partition. Is anyone familiar with this and can provide the details for fixing the corrupt block?

I would appreciate any suggestions, or should I just reformat the D: drive.

Thanks Bob

try
start->run
and
diskmgmt.msc
now check whether windows recognizes the ntfs partition or not and also whether it is hidden,or its partition number has changed.
you can unhide,change partition number through partition magic(it's not free,and i have never used it) or fdisk.
and disk partition table is stored in a place called the MBR,right at the start of the disk.
