Partition deleted from table, can I get it back?

Hi all,

here is the partitioning of my disk : 170GB-NTFS (primary)
-42MB-ext2 (/boot)(logical)
-2048MB-swap (logical)
-11GB-ext3 (/) (logical)
-59GB-ext3(/home)(logical)

(maybe the sizes are not very accurate)

when trying to install Gentoo from the livecd, it threwan error at me during partition resize (the one in question (NTFS) wasn't supposed to be touched at all). I then try again, and discover that the NTFS partition was gone, but everything had gone so fast I assume (hope) that it was not formatted.

All in all, I have an NTFS partition deleted from the partition table, but with the data supposedly still on the disk. I'd like to ask, if there is a way to get most of the data back? (The computer was shutdown from the livecd and not booted since)

Thank you all in advance

testdisk is the tool you need.
Some friendly advice - do not use the GUI installer for Gentoo.

Edit: Forgot to mention - it's on Knoppix if you have that handy.

Thanks, I'll try it right away.

as for this :

I need to do a networkless install, as the Gentoo minimal doesn't detect my wifi card, and I have to install the module later (rt2500USB).
