In what? What do you need to log the hits and misses in?

I have applied a patch to the linux kernel version(2.6.21)source code. The patch deals with compressed caching where we are trying to compress the swappable pages and store them in main memory itself. So I now want to test the memory effiiciency to find out whether the performance of memory management part has increased or not. For that reason we want to find out the page-hit and page-miss ratio.
So please kindly help me out!!!!

What version/distro of Linux are you using? Were there no instructions on the page where you got the patch, to see what it was doing after you applied it?

There are utilities like vmstat, free, and sar that all show detailed memory info. You can also "cat /proc/meminfo"..
