I am running Red Hat Linux 9, i686 (despite haveing an AMD AthlonXP 2200+), Biostar M7NCD mobo. I was wondering if I can overclock with this, and if i can, how do i OC?
Some AMD's are locked out from the factory so you can't overclock them and need a slight modification to the processor. You might check into that on yours.

I wouldn't do that. Overclocking *always* voids the warranty, so you will bot be able to RMA your stuff in case you fsck something up. Anyway, overclocking in linux will bring minimal benefits, as the OS uses available resources much better than Windows. Some extra performance can be eked out by properly adjusting your disk with hdparm.

I don't think that it will bring any noticeable gains with compiling. Also your video memory is not a cause for concern, unless you plan to play games. For 2D work its more than sufficient.

the cpu multipliers aren't locked in the new athlon xp's.
i'm running a 1700+ as a 2400+, but i bought a specific stepping cpu for that.
silver cpu paste, lapped heatsink, big low rpm fan for low noise. there's a lot better
forums than this one for that sort of stuff. www.athlonmb.com www.overclockers.com
i'm actually running at lower than normal voltage, and the cpu never gets above
110 F degrees. It's 87.8 right now.
if you just want to say you are overclocking, go in your bios and change the bus
speed from 133 to 134. then you'll be overclocking.
edit: i didn't look. if that's an nforce based board, you're probably not at 133.
