outlook calendar replacement

in my quest to have a more uniform experience between my windows and linux worlds, ive switched over a bunch of programs to open source. here's a couple of em:

AIM -> gaim
IE -> firefox
outlook -> thunderbird, almost!

i want to switch to thunderbird for everything but i need a calendar replacement for the outlook calendar that is open. preferably something based on iCal, or whatever the mozilla standard is. i tried mozilla calendar plugin and mozilla sunbird, but there's a reason both are buried in the mozilla site for now (plenty buggy).

does anyone know of a solid calendar app that can be installed in both a windows and linux environment?

You might want to take a look at the recently renamed Novell Evolution. It is an intergrated contact management, calander, email application. It used to be known under the Ximian name and is a pretty slick application. You can find out more details and the download links at:

I am sorry I did not catch the last reference to being able to install on both Windows and Linux. Off the top of my head I am unable to think of any application that handles both well. If use a Palm device you might be able to succed at using it as a middle ground and sync it with calander applications on each of the systems (palm desktop on Windows and one of the several one offs for palm that exist on linux).
