Could anyone direct me to a OSX theme for Gnome in the .rpm format and not the .tar.gz because i cant get online with linux yet and windows wont let me download .tar.gz files.

kde-look.org has some in the GTK section.

Also check out art.gnome.org for some metacity aqua themes.

Also, check out aqua-soft.org for Aqua skins for all platforms (including some cool GNOME ones).

ok i got that installed but now i need the icons and the dock thingy could someone show me where to get these

There is a "snow apple" theme which is vaguely Appleish.

There is no dock thing, perhaps SuperKaramba (but that's for kde).

Anyway, the OS X interface is horrible (i've used it) - you really don't want to copy that.

The OSX Interface is the most beautiful thing invented. Aqua is god.

But all the 'emulated ' ones for Linux suck.

Oh, put down the koolaid.

Aqua is riddled with usability problems, it exists purely to look good and sell units to unsuspecting victims. It places shinyness over convenience, and still manages to look ugly when you've been using it for too long (pinstripes, ugh).

Give me a smooth and unobtrusive theme anyday, they are *far* more professional than Aqua will ever be.

Well, remember, OSX has the command line as well. Best of both worlds.

MacOS is demoware, nuff said. If you want a pretty UI, and for whatever reason aren't happy with bluecurve/industrial/etc then make your own. For goodness sake, quit drooling, you are making the carpet dirty.

Except Macs are actually based on Unix (freebsd), so its really got a command line interface, whereas Cygwin is emulation.

I guess interfaces are opinion. But I LOVE OSX's look.

Cygwin is based on the same GNU tools as Linux is. If you're thinking that the BSD code is somehow more native on MacOS, then you need to do some investigation - for a long time Windows was more POSIX compliant than MacOS was.

Yes, the BSD code is native. In fact, take a look at FINK (fink.sf.net) , its a set of unix programs that have been ported to OSX/X11.

OpenDarwin, the OSX Kernel is an open source, BSD based Mach Kernel.

Along with that, Panther will have many of the new features of FreeBSD5.x series.


Cygwin is emulation, while OSX is native *nix. Thats a big difference.

You misunderstand. Look at the winsock interfaces, then check the Windows C runtime. You'll see all kinds of POSIX interfaces there.
