Oracle9i + Linux

I pay a visit to the Oracle website and I'm surprised to see Oracle 9i for Linux. Has anyone out there, actually installed, confugured and is using Oracle on a Linux system?

If yes, how do you go about confuguring it?

Gracias!

Yes, I've been there with 8i at least. The whole process is rather complex. When I tried 8i recently, the installation barfed because it requires a very old version - Redhat 6.2 to run .

I guess you can run it on any box with newer glibc. I did it too with RH 6.2 and 8iR2 but I knew back than that it worked with RH 7 with glibc problems fixed.

I have 8i (8.1.7) and 9i (9.2.0) running on Red Hat 7.3

9i requires glibc 2.2 makeing the install on modern linux's much easier, then 8i's install.

you may run into some make problems near the end of the linking of Oracles binaries, but nothing that you cant find the work around on google for.

Oracle has had a Linux version since Oracle8 and there was a way to get the SCO edition of 7.3 to run on linux. If you have Advance Server from Red Hat, Oracle9i and a support contract from Oracle, their support staff will even support the OS in addition to the rdbms software.
