Same problem
I have the same problem.
I am running oracle 11 on linux ubuntu 12.10. Oracle has been running successfully for some time. Now ,suddenly, when I try to log in, I get the message:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID have not changed, and I have made no changes in the database.
Can anyone help?
Thank you

ORACLE_HOME is /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe
ORACLE_SID is XE
They have been these values for more than a year of successful operation

Problem Solved
Fortunately, I was able to solve my problem
I entered 'sqlplus sys as sysdba'
It asked for a password, but luckily I was able to remember the one I had set a very long time ago
At the Oracle prompt I then entered 'startup'
And the database started!
