Optimizing Red Hat 9 for an older computer

I have installed Red Hat 9 on a Pentium 233MHz with 64MB. The only thing that I am going to use the computer for is a VT220 emulator running in Gnome. I want to remove as much of the applications I can, and hopefully speed up the performance. Where would I begin?

I believe RedHat a package manager that you could use to unistall programs. The easiest way I think would be to just do a new install. The installer will ask you what type of install (desktop, workstation, server, etc..) you want to do and you should select customs so that you can take out packages you don't need. For more info Red Hat 9 install guide

..... and typically you'd disable any unneccesary services - to see what's set to start in run level 5 open an xterm and

/sbin/chkconfig --list | grep 5:on

and to disable a service

chkconfig <servicename> off
