OpenMosix Clustering

Im in the process of building an OpenMosix cluster across 11 machines running either RH or gentoo. haven't decided on which one yet.

has anyone here built a cluster successfully and what distro were you running? Any pitfalls or tips you would you have benefitted from if you were trying to build one for the first time?

Working in an NT shop primarily, I'm being told to build a sandbox for our development team and heard through the grapevine they are going to POUND this bad mama-jama like a nail.

Thoughts? Oh- and nice to be here, first time visitor. :D

ClusterKnoppix

ClusterKnoppix comes in the form of a CD you just pop into your computer, viola, instant cluster hub..it automatically detects additional nodes as you add them...runs OpenMosix...haven't run it myself...but it sounds really nice.

Alright- I take it not many folks run clustered linux machines here or discuss it much. I wonder then if anyone is aware of any websites where I would find discussion groups on the subject less the Mosix user group? Haven't found many with real activity.

Much apreciated,

open mosix seems to work out of the box and also may not be what most people consider to be a proper linux cluster (i.e. lam/mpi). there is minimal freedom to solve anything here, probably limiting responses.

of course scalability, efficiency, and reliability will be key areas of interest once your openmosix system is operational.

cheers, -bp

yo

for the last couple of months i have been trying to get openmosix to work. i have a major problem with installing it on any debian box. there seems to be no online help for problems with openmosix. i would definetly recommened you use the cd's or a floppy solution instead of installing directly on to hard drive. open mosix knoppix looks good and i have used it, the only problem is that it sets all the drives to read only when booted up. if you find a way to get the patched kernels to recognize itself as a openmosix system let me know. i would love to see
:)
