Lightbulb opening a port

Hello everybody,

I have mandrake 10 and like to know how i can open and close a port on demand...
is there a command line command i can run to open a port and close it when i'm done with what i was doing?

any help u can give me would be greatly appreciated.

iptables is the tool you're looking for. It's run right from the shell so you don't know any gui tools or anything like that.

However I do not remember the exact syntax for opening ports using it, but I'm sure if you do a google search for "Opening Ports Using IPTABLES" or something similier I'm sure you will get your answer soon enough.

If you're running KDE...goto the kmenu -> System Settings -> Security Level
From here you can add the ports to the text box at the bottom...

Sorry if I misinterpreted the question...but this is how I've done it...
