Unhappy OpenGL programs crash immediately.

I was working on implenting dri last week on a Radeon 7000. I got it working in the sense that glxinfo now informs me that direct rendering is on, but now all my GL progs crash before rendering anything. The whole system locks up--keyboard, mouse, everything. Has anyone had similar problems? Thanks in advance for any help.

Did u go to the help&FAQ section on http://dri.sourceforge.net/?
there is a question (How do I enable PCI Radeon support on x86?) that takes you to a post where someone got the 7000 pci to work. Problem is that u have to recompile the kernel and such and i'm not experienced enough to do that yet. If anyone has any pointers plz let me know...
