one sound at a time with nforce2 audio
Hi i have already posted about this and i thought it was fixed... till now. I had to recompile my kernel to get the sound to work with my nforce2 on board audio. I am a noob so that in it self took some learning. After i got it all working, or so i thought, i did not use the machine for a while. Now i have begun to use it and i keep getting errors from programs like xmms that say can sound card or kde say sometimes that it cant acces dev/dsp.
Basicaly i can only play a sound from one program at a time and if i try more then i get errors? I heard something about including ac97 codec in the kernel but i can't find that. All i did to get it to partialy work was recompile the kernel and enable nforce audio as part of the kernel and not a module. Any advice? |
I have the same problem. Sound works fine, but only one sound source at a time will play. Anyone out there know how to get around this?

Ya i know what i "should" have done. I should have purchased a VIA kt400 board instead of an nforce. Nvidia needs to pay a bit more attention to the linux community. I think there is also a way to install some sort of software mixer that mixes the sounds from applications and then sends that to the sound card instead of all of the apps just trying to talk to the sound card. Not sure how to do this yet but i am working on it.

Please keep me updated on your progress. So far, this is the only thing that I don't like about my nForce. Everything else works fine.

You need to use a soundserver like KDE's aRTs.
the command to start the arts daemon, if it's installed, is simply Code:
artsd -Shade |
