One patch for all kernels?

If I start with the stock kernel in RH9 (2.4.20-8) and decide to download, say this one from the site:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...tch-2.4.26.bz2

Would this patch me to the latest from 2.4.20-8 or do I need to have every incremental patch up to 2.4.26?

Also, does it patch to the latest no matter what kernel you have, ie 2.4.2, 2.4.4, 2.4.20, 2.4.22, etc etc?

My suggestion would be NOT to mix stock kernel
with RH ... there is no such thing as a RH stock kernel ;)

RH (MDK, SUSE, ... ) are all making modifications to
the kernels from kernel.org (these are the stock kernels).

Cheers,
Tink
