Hi there i am trying all the evening to find out the system requirements for mandrake below version 9 and
redhat below version 9
Please help me to find them out

There are no reqirements, in fact. You can run MDK (version 9 is not an exception here) on 486 with 64MB RAM as a server with no problems (with no GUI). But if you'd like to use KDE/GNOME you need 256MB RAM or more. Processor is not so important, K6-2 500Mhz works quite smoothly (one of my friends run Mandrake with GUI on 366Mhz).

Try here took me around 10 minutes, 2 of those minutes were on the Google Linux Pages. The page goes down as far as 7.2. For earlier versions, try the other hits on the search (I searched for mandrake minimum requirements but you may be able to come up with better search terms - maybe using the version numbers..?

Unless you give us a specific version you wanting the requirements as well, that would be a long list to make giving you each requirement for Redhat dating back to their earliest version before 9.0; along the same lines with Mandrake... :rolleyes:

I want a distribution which can run with 48 mb ram. I want to be the latest one as possible as can be.
I think that i can run gnome 2.0 which only requires 16 mb of ram.

All of them can run with 48 megs of ram, you just won't be able to run the latest and greatest heavy desktop like gnome or kde.

I'd suggest maybe running like XFce or fluxbox which are lightweight window managers...

He means that any Linux distribution can be configured to run with fewer resources.

Why don't you tell us what you have and what you want to do and we can make suggestions.

alaios, if your wanting someone to just blurt out a distro... well, mandrake then.... its easy, newbie friendly.... etc.

But I'm not all about that. We have plenty of these types of threads already asked and answered in the distribution forum.

If you only tell us what I said above about 48 megs of ram, well, I'm going to give you the truth for an answer. Any distro should work for that purpose. But instead of using an older version of gnome, why don't you look into a lighter type desktop environment, like what I suggested before.

This is your choice. If you've used linux before, use the distro your most comfortable with. Your question will only generate opinions, not exact answers. Again, if you want opinions on a question like this, go browse the distro forum for those.
