Restore the old boot sector in the installed system with "lilo -u /dev/hda" ?
I think that if I can do this, I will be able to boot into and out of Linux. Right now, If I try and shut down, the computer hangs.
During the install, the computer gave me this message.....
"The LILO boot sector has been written to disk. Restore the old boot sector in the installed system with "lilo -u /dev/hda" then I had to click OK.
I am a windows user who needs serious help. I have no idea how to do this, but if someone would be so kind as to spell it out for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Right now, I am scared to turn the dang thing off because I know it will not boot correctly. I am hoping this will fix my problem, anyway, it did tell me to do it. I just don't know how! Please help.
I'm not sure to understand what you want to do... Your Linux Box is stalling at boot, is that right? And you don't have Windoze?
Are you sure Lilo is corectly installed/configurated?
Linux, like any other OS, needs a boot loader -- actually the BIOS does, but that's another story . So don't remove Lilo. Instead, post your lilo.conf file here so we can help you figure out what to do. Also, please tell us what error message you get when booting, or where it stops/hesitates/hiccups or whatever it's doing.
It won't hurt to leave your Linux system up until we figure this thing out.
I will look at it this evening when I get off of work. I will try and take notes. Then I will post them here.
Since I was having so much trouble installing a dual boot system, I just decided to give Linux my entire HD. I am using SuSE 7.3 Pro. In the graphical install, I manage to get to "step 7 out of 8" but it hangs when it wants to reboot.
I am able to get KDE to load after I keep the install CD in and use it to boot the system.
