"Linux" doesn't really have an official website. There's no institution, organisation or company called "Linux". There's www.kernel.org that has all the kernels on it and then each distro has their own site.

Yep! I had a feeling it was as you said.

In that case, I'll ask this question:

Which, in your opinion(s), is the "most official" Linux site?

I'll start off with http://li.org

That was Linus's original homepage you know.. the guy who created Linux.

Really though when you say the word Linux, its the kernel your talking about so if your going to call any site official, well then its www.kernel.org which is the official site of Linux.

Regards.

Yabut...

My purpose is to promote Linux to those not familiar with it.

So I need a "right purty" website to point them to, but aslo, one that is as official as possible

Well, you can point them to websites that are very resourceful but you should also make them aware of what Linux actually is, the different distributions and so on.

But I wouldn't point them to a site and tell them that is the official site of Linux, as there isn't one really except the kernel.org site.

Regards.

It is kernel.org

That's where Linux is.

The distros are not Linux, they come with a Linux kernel.

Post Official Linux Site

Actually if u r thinking abt showing Linux off to the "masses", i think
www.linux.org shud be the one.

Browsing thru it is easy and they have a good set of links too !!
And after that it depends on the person right

Yep! I kinda like that one.

Let's call it "The Official Unofficial Linux Website"
