Obtaining an IP through DHCP

Sometimes I have to plug around different areas networks with my laptop. How would I be able to obtain an IP through a DHCP server?

You need a dhcp client, try dhcpcd.

You also need to setup your eth0 interface to use dhcp, how to do this will vary depending on your distro.
