o/s replacement...

i'm just curious, but is there any linux distro that you people out there that could possibly replace the windows o/s and mac......i don't mean in the long run, just now....eg. programs, ease of use etc. etc. To make things simpler do you think there is a distro that maybe kids could even use....without all that console stuff.....just a gui???

SuSe is supposedly all about GUI.

MasterC 07-06-2002 05:56 AM

Oh and if you are really looking for one for your kids, you could just find a GUI (like ROK-I think that's what it's called) and strap it into any flavor of Linux. And you could be the "system admin" guy. That would be 1 way to at least monitor your kids computer use.

ahhhh i see.....SuSe ey...hmmmm but give that a look???....anyone else got some recomendations?

Mickey Mouse could use Mandrake ;)

MasterC 07-06-2002 08:22 AM

ha ha ha ha, Mickey! Yeah, but even Mandy has some command line. From what I have been reading about SuSe, it's all about the GUI.

MasterC 07-06-2002 08:22 AM

Your info says you are from Scotland, does everyone on earth know about Mickey Mouse?

Oh,you still need the CLI with SuSE-been using it since 7.1 and to do anything as root you'll want it.Kids dont need it,though.;)
