Hi, I just installed the latest nvidia-glx and kernel-nvidia stuff for gentoo. I hit startx and then bring up "glxinfo | grep direct" and I see that 3d rendering is enabled. So everything looks good. However, as soon as I start glxgears/quake3/or just start another program that requires a window. It locks up. Help?
Oddly enough, I'm having lockups on the same kernel version. I'm wondering if there are DRI issues with it. Try an older kernel, if you don't need the new stuff. I think 2.6.9 is still in portage. Or a vanilla 2.6.11.
I tried using an older kernel but the same thing happens. Running glxgears or anything that requires a GUI and the computer locks up I can move the mouse and use the keyboard for about 2 seconds before those lock up and I cannot change screens.
I have had glxgears lock up once, but I figured it is because I have composite enabled. Otherwise, all of my 3-D stuff works. I am using the unmasked nvidia drivers on kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r7.
