Nvidia Framebuffers

I am using Ubuntu Linux (for what it's worth), and I've decided to play around with console framebuffers. I've found it simple enough to modify my /boot/grub/menu.1st to let me use a 1024x768.

However, when I try 1280x1024, my framebuffer is shifted to the left about one character-width, and my monitor can't auto-shift it back. I've had such problems before, just in X, and it's almost always been because I'm using generic drivers instead of the Nvidia ones.

So what I want to know is how to set it up so that I use Nvidia drivers for my framebuffer. I know there's an nvidiafb.ko module, but I haven't seen anything on how to call it.

Thanks,
Chris

Are you using nv or nvidia drivers?
(it's written in the Device part of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf)

I'm using nvidia, but those drivers only come into it when I run X, so far as I know.

I'm wanting to boot up on a framebuffered console.
