nVidia FPS
Hi
I've just put an Nvidia card in my box and am wondering what sort of FPS I should be getting with glxgears. I've gone from approx. 150 (Trident onboard graphics) to approx. 700 FPS (nVidia PCI 32MB).
Cheers

Did you install the nvidia drivers. Raptor TI 4200 GeForce4 gives me ~7000 (Yes, 7 thousand FPS). Fullscreen at 1200x1024 = 700 FPS.

well I must have made a mistake somehwere - I installed the latest SuSE 8.0 drivers for nVidia to get my 700FPS . Maybe i should start again. Can I reload (not rpm this time!!) on top of my current install?

Er, kinda depends on *what* nvidia card you have. They do make more than one you know Actually they just make the chips.
My GeForce4 MX 420 gets around 700. Good 'nuff for me. I was able to get higher rates with a different driver, but then I started getting lots of screen glitches...

Did you change the "nv' driver to "nvidia". If not, then you aren't
using the optimized drivers. I truly love the video performance now.
($80 bucks after rebates at CompUSA). Tuxracer, 1280x1020 (hey,
because I can now), speed mode enabled, I hit 191 Km/h. ;D
I have also cranked up every option known to man. I actually duck
now when going under trees and close my eyes just before I slam into
a rock/mountain now.

I'm getting 11,000-12,000 for glxgears in the default sized window and around 1500 when expanded to full-screen. This is for a GF4 MX-8X. It's an AGP card (only runs at 2X on my m'board :-( ). I'd guess PCI to be slower based on what some of the game sites say. 700 FPS doesn't sound that bad to me.
