Nvidia Closed driver corruption after install

Hello,

I have been having this problem for a while now, in multiple linux distributions (Mandrake 9.0,9.1, libranet 2.8.1) where after the drivers are installed, both using the drivers included with the install CDs, as well as the ones that can be gotten from the Nvidia site, the drivers don't seem to work right. They will install, but as soon as i try to start x or the install tool (provided by the distros) run the test, i get screen corruption all over, and i have to force reset my machine. The default drivers that come with XFree work perfectly well, its just the nvidia branded ones that don't work.
Here is some specific info for you.

VideoCard:Hercules Geforce 3
Secondary VidCard: 3DFX Voodoo 3 PCI
AMD Duron processor
512 MB ram.

Any other information you need, just ask and ill send add it to the post. For obvious reasons, i don't have any configuration of the nvidia closed drivers available for posting, and the nv XF86Config-4 is the default provided through initial configurations.

did you edit the XF86Config-4 as per the instructions from the Nvidia Readme?? that "nv" should be "nvidia" and "load dri" and "load glx" should be uncommented, Read that document closely!!

I read through the readme for the Nvidia drivers, and got it properly starting. All i had to do was specifically set an option to disable the AGP feature of the driver.

Thank you for setting me on the right track 320mb.
