NVIDIA and Vida (Gentoo based)

Hi all,

I recently installed VidaLinux 1.1 on one of my spare computers and I love it! All the goodness of Gentoo minus the three day install time. However, I'm having a heck of a time getting my Nvidia card properly configured. Here is what happens when I emerge the nvidia-kernel:

Code:
root@localhost shane # emerge nvidia-kernel
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r3 to /
x86
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run
x86
 * Determining the location of the kernel source code
 * Found kernel source directory:
 *     /usr/src/linux
 * Could not find a usable .config in the kernel source directory.
 * Please ensure that /usr/src/linux points to a configured set of Linux sources

!!! ERROR: media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r3 failed.
!!! Function get_version, Line 177, Exitcode 0
!!! .config not found in /usr/src/linux
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.
Now, I've never been good with kernel stuff and I am really afraid to screw something up while trying to fix this.... so any help would be most awesome.

Shane

do you have the kernel source from your kernel? you'll need that before proceeding ( I've never used vida before, so I wasn't sure if you compile your own kernel like gentoo or if it comes with one precompiled for you). also, this is my preference only, I don't like to use the drivers from portage because they are always out of date and the components are split, I've always use the ones from nvidia.com. might want to look into those ( or use portage to install them, but head over to nvidia.com/drivers and take a look at the README for the drivers, the drivers have a ton of options.)

Yes, but my problem is in the source code I supplied, if you will look you will see that because of the sources I can not compile the driver... either from nvidia.com or from portage
