GForce 6100 and GForce 6200 don't work well with the nv driver (Slackware 10.2 and Ubuntu 6.06).
When using keyboard to navigate though e.g. a textarea (where text can be typed), there are artefacts (kind of pipes around the characters that one passes). On the 6200, starting to type clears the aretefacts (can't remember for the 6100).
I have not finetuned xorg.conf with regards to the 'device section'.

Code:

Installing nvidia drivers solves the issue.
Q1)
Anybody has experienced the same issues?
Q2)
Is there a solution, except for installing nvidia drivers?
Q3)
Where can I report this (as I think it's a bug)?
Its not a bug. The nv driver is for older video cards. Nvidia cards willt usually function with the vesa setting untill you get the driver installed if that helps .
Vesa or nv, neither may be entirely satisfying. I have seen distributions that run quite well with vesa so it would seem to make a better choice than a half functional nv driver - but I have also seen distributions that are extremely slow when vesa is being used - much slower than the nv driver. Choppy display when scrolling down pages, lagging video, etc. don't make for an enjoyable experience either. Besides, I recently installed an nvidia 7600GST and the nv driver worked fine me, at least good enough until I got round to installing the proprietary one.
No, not at all, actually. It was noticeably slower than the proprietary driver but that's another story, of course.
You're not the only one to struggle with that issue, apparently. I spent some time on google familiarizing myself with the procedures for setting up nvdia and this is one of the things I came across:
