Numeric Permissions

Hey guys, I need some help with the permissions: For example
I know how to convert from symbolic to numeric and viceversa, however when I get numbers like: 7000, 2354, etc. I get confused. Can somebody explain me the theory behind this? I'll appreciate it. Thanks

Mel
Ps: I was thinking about this, can you have cases in which the numbers are greater than 7. For example:

2900:
3888:
8000:
9999:
5989, etc.

No you can't have numbers greater than 7 because perms are expressed in octal base
with 4 digits permission team you are setting up suid, sgid and sticky bit permissions, I suggest you to have some reading on chmod derictive
man chmod
than if there is something unclear come and ask direct question w/o floating around.

Thanks neo77777

Now I have a better idea of how this work. However, I want to know when to use the UPPER CASE T, and the Lower Case t. Finally, how do I know that those permissions are set for a File or a Directory:

Examples:
1777 = rwxrwxrwt
from here can you tell if it is a File or directory?, and does it matter if I use t or T?

7777 = rwsrwSrwt
Am I correct?
again, why t or T?

Thanks
