There are some good tips here about fudging stratas within a LAN http://www.cameratim.com/computing/linux/time-serving but you may find it's more "fun" than expected as NTP tends to be pretty clever, and may well object to a time source that does not, in itself, sync to another higher source. If you can possibly make at least one server go off to pool.ntp.org or such like, then that would make things better in all sorts of ways.

Right, so you'd think that as there is a strata 12 server, it'd sync to it. my experiments with it didn't come to anything, but check out orphan mode http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Support/OrphanMode Again it's trying to be a bit clever, which can be annoying, but this is the more modern way to formally run isolated instances.

To make NTP as localhost server on Red Hat Version3 (2.4.21-4.EL)
Host IP: 192.168.12.110
My "ntp.conf" reads:
server 127.0.0.1
restrict 192.168.12.0 mask 255.255.255.0
driftfile /var/lib/ntp/drift
broadcastdelay 0.008
==================================================
Kindly help ... whether the above Configuration satisfies the required server setting as localhost
Thanks in advance
