Hi
Sounds like the usb address error I had last night whilst setting up 2.4.7 kernel. Basically my scanner wouldn't accept a new address. Rebooted machine with no luck. Checked var/log/messages and saw that it had worked OK on 1st boot of new kernel, then hung when I tried to scan something. Then it occurred to me the scanner could be hanging onto the incorrect address, powered everything off and bingo.
If you don't have any usb devices I guess it doesn't matter much. Everything else worked for me including CDR SCSI emulation.

Hi again,
actually all this makes sense since I do have a USB scanner which I can't seem to use.
I'm using a macintosh blue & white G3 with Suse 7.0 installed .. tried to use xsane but it couldn't find the scanner. After doing some reading I realised that xsane could only use scsi.
Is there a way I could use the USB scanner?
there is limited usb support in linux right now... it's getting better with each kernel release, but it's still a bit shaky. you'll need to do some usb-specific web-searches to find some more info. i have a usb port, but i never use it, so i disabled it to get rid of all the annoying error messages.
My scanner works fine on kernel 2.4.2 Have upgraded to 2.4.7 to try to get the cd recorder going better. Read the docs I mentioned above and you should be fine. Support was originally for hp, but most scanners are supported now. There are web links etc in the docs.
