I have the exact same problem. Are you saying that once you'd deleted it as root, it stopped appearing altogether?

hi there t1mc00per
i deleted it as root. does not appear when i log in as root.
i deleted it also at user1. at user1 desktop, keeps reappearing.

i believe that must have something to do with umounting. i must be doing something wrong when taking a floppy or cd out of their drives. i do not do any unmount (i do not know how!). i just press the buttons and put them out!

If you look in your /mnt directory there will be some subdirectories, probably called 'floppy', 'cdrom' etc. These are where the filesystems for your removable media are mounted.

To unmount a filesystem, type 'umount /mnt/media (replace media with floppy or cdrom etc.)

I still don't know how to stop te removable media shortcut appearing though. It only does it to me when I have my USB Zip drive plugged in.
