no write access to windows partition

Hi, I just installed a dual boot Win2000 - Mandrake 9.2
When I mount my win partition I have read-only access and I can't change the permissions. When I try chmod ... it only says 'read only filesystem' and doesn't change anything.

The strange thing is that my /mnt/windows permissions are completely open. RWX access for all users.
Once I mount my windows partition the permissions change to dr-x------

Is this a windows or a linux problem? How can I get write access?

If your Windows system uses NTFS (it most probably does) then you won't get write access to it. Microsoft haven't revealed how NTFS works, so the Linux implementation will eventually crash an NTFS file system if it writes to it.

Excellent! :) Last time I checked around there was no working NTFS file system for Linux.

Good to hear that you got it to work.

WHAT A PATHETIC, FLEA BITTEN, DRUNKENLY STUPIFIED PIECE OF CRAP MICRO$OFTS EXCUSE FOR AN OPERATING SYSTEM IS.
Sorry, that comes over me sometimes. How do I get a signiture?
