If you had a CMI sound card it would show up in lspci.
You obviously don't.
Make sure that the cmipci module is NOT in /etc/modules
and try a reboot.
Then:
- do the device nodes exist? (ls -l /dev/dsp)
- is the driver loaded? (lsmod | grep snd)
